Worn-Out Deck Gets a Full Rebuild with Trex Composite and Privacy Walls

The old deck here had run its course. It wasn't safe, it wasn't attractive, and it definitely wasn't doing this backyard any favors. These homeowners had a pool, a hot tub, a fire pit area - a whole outdoor setup that deserved a real anchor. What they had instead was a worn-out structure that was holding everything back.

We started from scratch. The old framing came out completely, and we rebuilt it the right way - fresh pressure-treated framing, properly spaced joists, solid footings. That's the part nobody sees, but it's the part that makes everything above it last. We don't cut corners on what's underneath because that's exactly where problems start.

For the surface, we went with Trex Select in Pebble Gray. It's a clean, neutral tone that works with just about any furniture or color scheme - and it won't rot, splinter, or need to be stained every couple of years. The deck steps down to a concrete pad, which gives a natural transition from the deck surface to the surrounding gravel and landscaping. On both sides of the hot tub area, we added dark privacy walls that screen the space from neighboring yards and give the whole setup a much more finished, enclosed feel.

What we ended up with is a backyard that actually functions as an outdoor living space. There's dedicated room for dining, lounging, the hot tub - all of it laid out on a surface that's going to hold up year after year without much maintenance at all. That's the real sell with composite decking. You stop thinking about the deck and start just using it.
